What kind of club is Blackheath Cricket Club? Here is a brief description of the facilities and general ethos that you will find here. 

Although originally a typical village cricket club (see the History page for more details) Blackheath has evolved over the last 30 years into a club that offers a much broader range of activities, from friendly village cricket on Sundays to serious league cricket on Saturdays to prestige midweek fixtures.

CRICKET

On Saturdays we run two XIs :-
The 1st XI currently plays in the Surrey Championship Division III along with teams such as Epsom, Ashford and Shepperton. We usually invite a gifted young overseas player to spend the summer playing for us in this team and recent visitors have included Andrew Redpath, son of the Australian Test batsman.
The 2nd XI currently plays in the Fullers Brewery Surrey County League Division I and hopes to be promoted to the Surrey Championship this year.

On Sundays we also run two XIs :-
We enter a team in the National Village Competition along with around 800 other villages from throughout the United Kingdom. We have won the Surrey/Berkshire group in this competition about 10 times in the last 15 years, going on to represent this area in the national part of the competition. Our best performance to date came in 1997 when we reached the national quarter finals. 
We also run a regular Sunday XI which plays every Sunday against other village teams in the area. This team welcomes players of ALL standards, although a strong drinking arm usually comes in useful.

In addition to all this we also have a programme of midweek cricket throughout July and August, in particular our annual Cricket Week. These matches are often against prestige teams such as MCC and Australian Crusaders. 

For our younger members we offer Colts activities on Sunday mornings and Thursday evenings for all age groups from 6 to 14. We currently have two teams playing in the West Surrey Colts League, at Under 11 and Under 13 age groups.

SOCIAL

Off the field the club is active too. In 2003 we celebrated our 125th anniversary with a Summer Ball, a black tie affair held in a marquee at the ground. 

Blackheath is such a beautiful spot that it's ideal for occasional BBQs, etc. and many of our non-playing members visit us on Saturday and Sunday evenings for a quiet drink while watching the last few overs of the game.
