MATCH REPORT - COLTS Under 11

Match played on Sunday 16th May 2004

Blackheath (298) beat Farncombe (228) by 70 runs.

A convincing win built on a real team effort in which everybody played their part. Every pair of batsmen scored at least 15 runs in their allotted 4 overs, everybody bowled 2 overs each and no bowler gave away more than 10 runs.

Shot of the day was Charles Steele's square drive through point for 4. Over of the day was Sam Dobson's double wicket maiden.

We were more experienced than the Farncombe team and we made that experience count, especially with our calling and running between the wickets. This was personified by Stanley Verkaik and Toby Webb who, despite only hitting one shot past the fielders, still managed to add over 20 runs between them in quick singles.

A special "well done" to newcomer Harry Giles. Having been unluckily LBW first ball he proceeded to score a further 16 runs including two boundaries, and also kept wicket very tidily.

Based on this performance I'm looking forward to more success as the season progresses, not to mention some tricky selection decisions!
