| Blackheath Sunday 2nds 'A' Vs Shere July 14th 2002 Contributed by Pedros (no email address supplied) on 17/07/02 18:08:51 | |
| I won't beat around the bush or at least not any bush, but I haven't seen so much cheating since Mr McCheat from Cheatsville took his family on Safari and got eaten by a Cheetah. Their opening leftie, who almost sent us to sleep in the field with the most boring display of batting I have ever had the misfortune of witnessing, snicked a delivery from MF that was so loud, people in NY were ducking for cover thinking Bin Laden had struck again.# Then a run out, that was so out, even the old timer who was sitting asleep on a bench by the boundry line, raised his finger in agreement. To add salt to the large gaping wound, the umpire who had given these ridiculous decisions went on to score 49 not out, was dropped at least 3 times, and almost won the game for Shere, much to the chagrin of the whole team. PJH, for a now World Record beating 8th time in a row, won the toss and elected to bat on a swelteringly hot day. The pitch was slow and low and runs were difficult to find, with only Roger [31] playing any fluent shots, and Blackheath were soon in trouble at 60 odd for 5. PJH and new boy Aussie Mate Rich steadied the ship and advanced the score to 150 before PJH ran himself out taking a suicidal single. The tail wagged helped by some agricultural hoychs from TJ and SJ and Blackheath's innings closed on 177 for 9, which seemed to have put the game out of the reach of Shere.# MF and the returning Dark Destroyer Karim opened the bowling and were very unlucky not to pick up any wickets, with Shere reaching 60 odd without loss. Capitano put himself on and had immediate success taking a wicket LBW with his very 1st delivery. With Aussie Rich operating at a lively pace from the other end Shere struggled to score runs but didn't lose many wickets due to their cheating umpire [Robbie McCheat]. Despite the melting heat Blackheath's heads didn't drop and the language became ever more colourful as the afternoon wore on, until a very special moment in the field. Keith 'Anchor Butter Fingers' Harrowing took a spectacular catch one handed with both feet off the ground, tilted at 90 degrees, havana lit in the side of his mouth, ball spinning like a top, singing Hit me Baby one more time. Not only that but he then proceeded to take 3 wickets with his Special Brew of right arm slow lollies. In the end we dropped too many catches, none of which were straightforward, but at least half of which we would normally expect to pouch. Shere got uncomfortably close to out total but a Draw was the very minimum we deserved for all efforts...... | |

| Comment from Arbiter Of Good Taste ([email protected]) on 29/07/02 11:51:17 I must say Pete's writings are most amusing these days. I think he's swallowed a thesaurus. Makes a change from what he normmally likes to swallow. Harry Monk. | |
