Contrary to popular rumour, this is my first visit to this amazing website, and well done to Webby for putting together such a great advert for the club, spoilt only by rude, lude and unseemly comments from some of its members! I would like to refute the headline that suggests the League team have "challenged Sunday 2nds" to a fixture at the end of the season. The whole purpose of the club match is to try to bring all club members together for an end-of-season social - all the competitive cricket having been played and reported on. It is my hope, and the hope of many in the club, that the great work done by the organisers of the Sunday and saturday teams can be recognised by the club as a whole, and that this fixture will allow all teams to mingle and for those who haven't met to meet up and make friends. It is for club members, ie those who are committed to the club enough to have paid their annual subs. Others are more than welcome to come along and enjoy the day, eat and drink at the bar and meet people, and, if we are short having decided to resurrect the 6-a-side competition, to join in. In terms of a "Sunday vs Saturday showdown" the club day is not the vehicle. However, if there is enough interest I suggest a fixture early next year to prepare for our next attempt at the hugely popular and great addrenelin rushing village knockout, so that we can get some early limited over practice in and pick the absolute best side we can, and get rid of some of those grey haired fleshy fatties from the first team (like me) and replace them with some lithe fit and superior types from the Sunday XI. Let's timetable it in and announce it at the club game on the 21st September. The Sunday XI's have done great work in resurrecting the sunday game at the club, and all credit to you for that. But let's remember the things that we trumpet to the world on our website. They are ticking away at the top of the screen as I write this. Those are the things I hope in time all members of the club will get a crack at. Our strength is in our depth. With best regards Mike Chase

The resurrected club game is not a time or place to ingender competition within the club but to create harmony, co-operation and goodwill between members. If it is only to serve to increase the division which already exists between different club sides, then the format should be changed to six-a-sides or a single wicket competition etc. As a relative newcomer to the scene at Blackheath, I am disturbed by what I see happening. May I remind you all that we have NO Chairman, NO Secretary, NO Regular Bar Staff, and we rely mainly on overcommitted pensioners to produce the square and outfield in the condition which you all expect every week. The club does not run itself and more help and responsibility needs to be shown by those who at present turn up to play their cricket and then leave without any thought about all the work that is needed behind the scenes, to enable them to do it. Let's get our act together and ACT TOGETHER.

[1] I'm not sure which lude, rude and unseemly comments you are referring to, but if it's the match report's that have offended you and others then I apologise. Many people have enjoyed reading them and I have had positive feedback from a number of people who find them fun, amusing, lighthearted and even cheer up their weeks. I would like to quote an e-mail from the Website owner himself, Graham Webb, ''Incidentally, thanks for all the stories you contribute. I always read them, it usually brightens my week. I hope lots of others read them too. Looking at the site it's a pity that the only thing that's up to date is your news stories, and they are hidden away under the "News" button. One wet Saturday I hope to get around to redesigning the site so that your news stories appear on the front page where everybody can see them better. Regards, Graham'' As far as trumpeting to the world on our website, I don't see many contributions from anyone else. [2] As far as the fixture between the Ists and 2nds is concerned. It was only meant to be a bit of friendly rivalry and banter between the sides. We offered to produce a side that would give the 1sts a decent game, but we were basically told that this was not acceptable. I fully agree that a club day is great idea as well and don't understand what the problem is with either or both ideas. [3] Regarding the bar etc. Brad and I have worked tirelessly making sure the bar runs smoothly on a Sunday. I must say that it has been disappointing at the state the bar has sometimes been left in for us to clear up. [4] Regarding strength in depth and acting together, the Sunday fixture list has had 2 joint fixtures in there from day one. Not one person called me from the 1sts asking if I needed any players. When Brad asked them no-one wanted to play, with only Steve, a contracted player, eventually playing. I don't see how this encourages a good club spirit. It seems as soon as the Ists are knocked out of the village cup the interest levels drop very quickly. I think I speak for most of us who play on Sundays. To be honest, a lot of us are getting to the stage where we wonder whether its really worth all the hassle. I'm willing to talk to anyone about how to improve things in the best interests of Blackheath. I believe their should be a pool of players for Sunday's, with one team only, a mixture of 2nds and Ist team players. I think the village cup should be worked around those fixtures and feel that currently it is a hindrance to Sunday cricket as a whole. Pete

I think it's great that you all feel so passionately about the club but remember we are all on the same side, we need to work together. Pete, it is all worth it and although there are some personnel problems at the club i believe we can start to go forward again soon. Hopefully the club day will be a success and i feel that a six-a-side comp would be the best bet to bring everybody together. We used to play this many years ago on club day and it was a good fun. One point i would like to make is that a Sunday 2nd player on the club committee would be a good idea.Perhaps someone should put themselves forward. We are looking to change the structure and format of the committee and hopefully it will be more constructive and more pro-active! I am taking over the role of Fixture Secretary(for fixtures for 2004) and i am very keen to restructure the Sunday fixture list and i would like to speak to Pete and Brad about this very soon. I have been a member at the club for 23 years(i know i don't look old enough) and i feel that with some hard work we can really put it on a strong footing for the next decade, but we need to work together and we need to act soon. I think Paul and Pete have the right idea - let's talk. I for one feel very posiitvely about the club and the teams, there is no division from my perspective.
