| Both the First and Second teams had great victories last meaning strong league run-ins for both teams. The first XI have now have a chance of finishing 3rd while the seconds may still gain promotion to the Surrey Championship if things go their way next week. After a poor start, great individual and team performances in the first team set up a superb last 20 over run-chase with 7 an over needed to clinch victory. A solid innings from Stevenson (67), overcoming a blow to the nose and some hostile bowling from the East Molesey overseas player led the way, and a fine partnership with Chase (68) meant that victory was always possible. The team then lost their way in the middle order, but Payne came in to steady the ship and McDermott secured victory with 7 balls to spare with a huge 6 and 4 of his last two deliveries. 2nds completely overpowered their opposition, bowling them out for a low total (credits to Rupert, Henderson and Pearce). The team then knocked the runs off with ease, batting around a fine innings from Barratt (50). | |
