Boys Are Back In Town - Extended Version
Contributed by Pete "Curtly" Horsting ([email protected]) on 12/07/00 14:01:56
After a slow start to the season, the 2nd XI Sunday Team is really starting to hit its straps, with some good wins over opposition that always seen better prepared than ourselves. Obviously they havent been attracted by the bright lights of Bar Mambo la the dynamic duo of B.B & J.W.

Isabelle Duncan has secured her spot as the Geoffrey Boycott, or for those younger viewers, the Mike Atherton of the team, with a fabulous innings of 42 which set up a comprehensive win by 86 runs over Hampton Court.

Roger Cannon Fodder has been treating the bowling just like his name suggests, including a brilliant unbeaten 100 against Waverley in a winning draw . In his own words his scoring average Must be enormous this year, but dont tell the wife!

Brad Baker has been bowling steadily as our main strike bowler, but I just wonder if his slight reduction in pace is linked to his penchant for Vodka Red Bull.

Jem Whippet Williams is the Jonty Rhodes of the team, priding himself on having the most soiled trousers at the end of each game. He has also developed a fantastic Leave, which consistently passes the outside edge. However, it very rarely misses the middle stump in the process.

Of the newcomers, Velu, is proving to be an all-round talent, batting with style and bowling with variety and subtle changes in pace. Against Westcott in a game we won by 5 wickets, he scored 77 n.o. and took 4 for 25!

As for myself, Im working on the Curtly Ambrose, finger wagging appeal and the Glen Mcgrath vocabulary. While on the batting front spending most of my time getting run out, much to the hilarity of Ashley Run on Anything Baker who has been conspicuous by his absence this year.

Everyone has chipped in so far and the younger members like Calum, Kareem and Alistair are showing the old dogs some new tricks.

Pete Horsting.

I am a foxy chick from the Guildford area. I would like to use this forum to attest that the Sunday 2nd XI are comfortably the best looking cricketers at Blackheath, perhaps the best in Surrey. If they gave runs for just being handsome, six-footers then you guys would score a century every week. I can personally vouch for the skills of at least two of them - but that's another story!
