Blackheth won the toss and elected to bowl first. We bowled tightly and reduced Roehampton to 47 for 5 before a customary lack of concentration meant that Roehampton had scored 132 before we got the seventh wicket. The innings was swiftly wrapped up by A. Greenslade. P Buchan 7.1.18.0, C Card 14.5.35.3, H Parker 15.1.67.4, A Greenslade 8.2.19.3. Two catches each by J. Bull-Diamond and G. Cotton and one by C Card made the difference between chasing a low score in plenty of overs and a much higher score in far fewer overs. This must be achieved every week if we are to have a successfull season. The Blackheath innings was opened, for the first time in about 15 years, by Robert Ellis who carefully picked up 37 runs before a slack defensive shot had him caught behind. Contributions of 17 by T. Brockman, 35 by A. Greenslade, 25* by our Jamaican, M Lynch, and 26* by J. Barratt secured a 7 wicket win.
With other results going our way we have moved up to joint 3rd in the league, 19 points behind the
leaders, Oxted. We have high hopes of securing promotion into the Championship and therefore creating players who are capable of backing up the Club and the 1st XI in the Championship. With the continued, and greatly appreciated, support of all members we can make the future of cricket at
Blackheath stronger and more secure.
