Another Sunday, another win for the Sunday 2nd XI. A compass and homing pigeon would have been the most useful thing to have in your kit bag this week. These tools would have at least ensured finding the ground (near Caterham). We lose the toss and field first. Nothing prepared us for the bowling savagery of Colin “Monster” Rhodes and accuracy of Bradley “Super-Bad” Baker. Baker bowled 7 maidens before they had a run off him – I will avoid making weak jokes about maidens. “No need” to detail BB’s impressive bowling figures here – he’s sure to tell you about it next time you see him. Likewise, Rhodesy was mean at the other end, and tortured the poor lambs at the crease. “Is there any other part of me you’d like to hit?” asked the opener, “Yes. Your head,” the Horsting character murmured portentiously. The fall of wickets was so fast that this writer can’t recall them, suffice it to say they fell faster than a “whore’s drawers”. At 36 for 8 (?) the game was effectively over, and they could have been buried. Nevertheless, sportingly, (it is the day of the lord) we guided them to 73 all out. Blackheath then made the required runs for one loss - good work at the crease from Rob “Trigger-Finger” Forshaw and The Rhodes Monster. Special mention to Tom “Leaping-Salmon” Jones, whose one handed-backward-motion catch made a case for the spectacle of the day. That honour, however, has to be reserved for Aussie Annie – for fronting up with the best chest ever seen supporting a Sunday 2nd XI away game. More of those, please.
